Eligibility and Key Requirements
Eligibility details are outlined in the Manipur University Ph.D. Regulations, 2023 (available at http://www.manipuruniv.ac.in/uploaded/mu_phd2023.pdf). In summary, candidates must hold:
- A 1- or 2-year Master’s degree after a 4-year Bachelor’s (with at least 55% marks or equivalent).
- Or a 4-year Bachelor’s with 75% marks.
- Or M.Tech/M.E./M.S. in Engineering with 60% (or B.E./B.Tech with 60% and valid GATE score).
- Or LL.M./M.D./M.S./M.Sc. Nursing with 55% from recognized institutions.
- Or M.Phil. with 55% marks.
Relaxations of 5% apply for SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/PWD/EWS categories, per government norms. Foreign qualifications are accepted if from accredited institutions.
Admission involves a Qualifying Entrance Test (QET) with a 100-mark question paper (50 MCQs). Candidates need 50% to qualify (with 5% relaxation for reserved categories). Final selection weighs 70% NET scores/marks and 30% interview performance (50 marks: research proposal presentation 20 + personal interview 30). Exemptions apply for UGC-NET/UGC-CSIR NET/JRF/DBT-JRF/GATE qualifiers or similar national tests.
Reservations for SC/ST/OBC/PWD/EWS follow Government of India norms.
