In an era where information is more accessible than ever, the role of mainstream media in shaping public perception is critical. However, Indian mainstream media has increasingly veered toward sensationalism, prioritizing noise over substance. This blog explores the decline in journalistic integrity, marked by dramatic narratives and misinformation, and contrasts it with a factual recounting of recent events, such as the Pahalgam attack and its aftermath, based solely on verified government sources. By examining these issues, we underscore the urgent importance of credible reporting in fostering informed public discourse.

22 April 2025: Pahalgam Attack

On 22 April 2025, a group of heavily armed gunmen launched a coordinated attack on a popular tourist spot in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, targeting a group of visitors that included Indian government officials and civilians from multiple states. According to government sources, the attackers were identified as members of the Pakistan-based terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba, comprising two Pakistani nationals and two local residents who had been radicalized. The assault resulted in the tragic loss of 26 lives, with several others injured. The attackers employed automatic weapons and grenades, aiming to maximize casualties and sow panic in the region. Indian security forces swiftly neutralized the threat, engaging the terrorists in a prolonged firefight. In the aftermath, the government launched a massive security crackdown across Jammu and Kashmir, detaining over 1,500 individuals for questioning to dismantle the terror network and prevent further attacks. Government statements emphasized the attack as a deliberate attempt to destabilize the region and vowed a strong response to those responsible.
